Three images of the river front and canal basin at Gravesend in North Kent, designed to emphasise the importance of the River Thames to the history of the town. The pier in the first image is said to be the oldest surviving cast-iron pier in the world. The Dutch Barge in the second image is one of several that are currently used as houseboats in the canal basin, but which formerly plied the Thames carrying cargo and passengers up and down the river. Rowing remains a popular pastime in the town, and several local businesses sponsor race teams, as seen in the final image.
